Once again the Cougar struck early to build an insurmountable lead. Nielsen connected with five touchdown passes, and BYU had a 47-0 lead going into the final quarter. Lobos then scored three times, two on passes by Noel Mazzone. Final score came when Tod Thompson of BYU picked up an on-side kick and ran 45 yards for the score. Cougar defense was tough through most of the game. Nielsen went 19 of 23 for 273 yards and five touchdowns.
