No. 17 BYU defeated Colorado State 45-42. BYU rolled up 551 yards of total offense with quarterback Max Hall completing 28-of-37 passes for 389 yards and five touchdowns. The nation’s leading receiver, Austin Collie had nine receptions for 156 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. Dennis Pitta had a career-high 12 catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns, while Unga had 24 carries for 143 yards rushing. After a 66-yard BYU touchdown from Hall to Collie was called back, CSU recovered a Hall fumble and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown with just 2:02 off the game clock. BYU evened the score on its next possession as Hall found Collie, who made an incredible one-handed grab for a 58-yard touchdown to even the score at 7-7. The Rams scored again with 3:27 to go in the first quarter to take a 14-7 lead, but BYU answered with a Hall to Collie strike again. Both teams scored late in the second quarter to knot the score at 21-21 at the half. The Rams struck first in the second half with a touchdown for a 28-21 lead, answered by a 30-yard Mitch Payne field goal to make the score 28-24 at the end of the third quarter. BYU took its first lead of the contest as Hall found Pitta over the middle for a touchdown with 13:15 to play in the fourth quarter and a 35-31 lead. But another CSU score took the lead back at 35-31 at the 7:20 mark. Four plays later, Harvey Unga raced 40 yards up the middle to give the Cougars a 38-35 lead with 5:49 to play. After both teams failed to score on their next possession, the Rams scored another touchdown with just 1:44 to play. Hall then led his team to cover 76 yards in six plays, taking just 1:14 on the clock. It was capped by a 17-yard strike to Pitta with just 22 seconds on the clock.
