- First win against an opponent ranked in the AP Poll
34,116 fans greeted visiting BYU to Arizona under clear, warm skies for an afternoon TV game...still "bubbling" over their impressive victory over UTEP, BYU took command of the whole game from the starting whistle...first to score was UA on a pass from the 50, but the Cougars came right back with one of their own Sheide specials to Betham from 13 yards out...another score for the Cats boosted the score to 14-7, then Sheide found Jeff Blanc open again for another TD, this time from 27 yards...quarter score 21-7...Sheide was 20 of 35 for 267 yards and 5 TDs...other standouts included Jeff Blanc nabbing 4 passes for 61 yards and 2 TDs and John Betham's 10 catches for 144 yards and 3 TDs...Wildcats had a total of 328 yards, 106 less than the Cougars.
