Both the offense and the defense sparkled in this Cougar scoring fest that started on a dismal note for the Cougars. Much to the surprise of all concerned, the Lobos scored first with a Jimmy Sayers rush in the first quarter. From then on out, however, the Cougars held the reins of the game, accumulating 463 passing yards and posting four pass interceptions and two fumble recoveries as well. Bill Schoepflin and Bob Prested were responsible for two interceptions each, and Prested, along with Glen Titensor, recovered the fumbles. The pass happy Cougars connected for six touchdown passes; from Wilson to Homer Jones in the first period, and to Lloyd Jones, Dan Plater and Bill Davis in the third. Royce Bybee completed the remaining touchdown passes, both to Kent Tingey in the fourth period. Homer Jones scored the only rushing touchdown in the second quarter, and Brent Johnson was responsible for eight PATs plus a field goal. BYU now 7-0.
